Matt Gigg
Head Coach, PT and MPG Owner

I have always had a real passion for sport & fitness and subsequently it has played a huge role in my life. My sporting interests include football (previously played Somerset County & Bristol Premier standard), surfing, skiing and a keen cyclist. In recent years I have competed in various endurance events including Ironman, London Marathon and local half marathons.

I qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2010 and since then have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in 1-1 training of all ages ,from younger teenage athletes through to much older generations. I continue to support clients with weight loss goals, rehabilitation, sports specific training, disabilities and medical conditions.

This experience has proved invaluable in transferring these skills to coaching CrossFit and helping to identify specific needs and requirements to each individual member at CrossFit MPG.

I first discovered CrossFit after searching for different ways and methods to train both myself and my clients. My first WOD (workout of the day) was Fran (an infamous CrossFit WOD). 10 minutes later I finally finished, completely exhausted and wondering what had hit me!!! I was hooked. That was 5 years ago and I haven't looked back since. I qualified as a CrossFit Level 1 trainer back in 2013 and then as a Level 2 trainer in 2018. I love every aspect of my job, from the variety of each workout and how it can be scaled for any ability, to the community it brings with it - it has truly changed my life!

Qualifications - CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, Level 3 Advanced Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist, Level 2 Gym Instructor, Circuit/Boot Camp Instructor, Gym Based Boxing Instructor, Sports Rehabilitation, Weight Loss Nutrition, Sports Specific Nutrition.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always had a huge passion for sport. It goes without saying throughout my school years hockey, tennis and netball took precedence over anything vaguely academic!  It was however hockey that I went on to play regularly, and still manage play to this day. To try and stay fit in the past, I have also enjoyed running, having taken part in a number of half marathons and am particularly proud to have completed the London Marathon in 2011.

In 2013 I was introduced to CrossFit.  I was instantly hooked as the level of exercise in a competitive and team environment replaced the monotony and loneliness of running – I can honestly say I think I enjoy and look forward to even the toughest days at CrossFit!!!!

In 2018 I was offered the opportunity to join the coaching team at MPG.  The enjoyment and satisfaction I get from coaching is way beyond anything I could have imagined and taken my love of CrossFit to a whole new level. Finding time for all of this is very much easier said than done whilst juggling the needs of a growing, demanding and busy family life – a husband, two boys and a dog keep me busy during the brief periods I’m not at MPG!!!!

I’m excited for the future of MPG and privileged to be a part of it – coaching, socialising, competing with and against members new and old gives me a real buzz and a feeling I find hard to replicate in any other fitness category.  Helping others achieve the previously unthinkable is genuinely amazing to be part of.

CrossFit Coach

I am proud to say I was one of the original members at CrossFit MPG and have loved seeing the ‘MPG family’ grow ever since.

After undergoing a back operation in 2006, CrossFit has helped my own recovery and I am now fitter and stronger than ever. I try and enter a few ‘master’ individual and team competitions each year as they are great fun and a good way to challenge yourself away from the comfort of our box.

I love the fact that CrossFit is open to all ages and all fitness levels and really is all inclusive. For me it is so much different than just going to the gym.

I have played several sports over the years and just wish I found CrossFit when I was a lot younger!

I passed my CrossFit Level 1 in September 2018 and love sharing my experience and knowledge with the members to help them with their individual goals whilst having a smile on their face.

Gemma Jones

CrossFit Coach & PT

I was an avid attendee of generic fitness classes for 10 years until I found CrossFit four and a half years ago and has never looked back! I have been an L3 personal trainer and PN1 nutrition coach at MPG since late 2017, passing my CF L1 in 2019.

I really love helping others to believe in themselves and achieve things they never thought they would. The community aspect of Crossfit is absolutely incredible - the support you receive from the CF community in general and also specifically at MPG from the coaches but also from the other members is epic - we have so much fun and everyone is so encouraging and friendly. I am not really that competitive and understand that for maybe 70% of our members, competing is not on their radar, they just want to get fit and have fun and that is what we are here for - to support everyone on their own journey and make their workout the best part of their day!

As well as CrossFit, I love yoga and meditation and helping others achieve mental wellness alongside physical fitness. I spend lots of time outdoors exploring with my dog and teach at a fitness retreat in Portugal several times a year. I have recently qualified as a Pre- & Postnatal Coach.

Qualifications - CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, Level 3 Advanced Personal Trainer, Level 2 Gym Instructor, Precision Nutrition PN1, GGS Pre- and PostNatal Coach.
